The social media as defined by Andreas Kaplan and Michael Haenlein, is "a group of Internet-based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of web 2.0, which allows the creation and exchange of user generated content.

In my opinion, social media is a cheap and easy way of gaining popularity or status these days!. from facebook to twitter and Youtube, people have been able to gain cheap popularity by just posting videos of them airing their personal opinions or just performing random acts, most of which are usually exciting to see!.

more exciting is the notion of Youtube "celeb".funny how people post random (but exciting) videos and then command a huge following, even down to appearing at fashion events and walking on thee red carpet!. cool!!!
